C2PA / Content Credentials

Short answer

A content provenance standard recording how an image was created and edited.

C2PA attaches a cryptographically signed history to an image: which tool made it, what edits it went through, and by whom.

Adobe's Content Credentials is the standard's most widespread implementation and is added automatically to images generated with Firefly.

For news organisations and corporate brands its value is being able to prove an image's provenance. As AI-generated content spreads, that kind of verification is becoming more important.
